We didn't waste any time getting out onto the open road.
There were some really nice beaches along the way. This is Lisa and her Mum.
But before that, we spent our first night in the Adelaide Hills in the motorhome, and then the next morning we didn't hang about finding ourselves a good old winery to get a bit tipsy.
Let the wine tasting commence!
A good laugh had by all while sampling some of the local grapes.
The scenery in South Australia and Victoria is stunning.
Before Australia I wasn't big into wine. Now, however, I can definitely say I’m a casual wine drinker.
We made it to the Great Ocean Road in good time, taking in the many stops along the way to admire the rocks formations. There’s one called The Grotto, containing s pool of very still water with the crashing ocean waves behind it... here's a picture.
The Grotto
London Bridge
The Twelve Apostles, well some of them
We stopped over in a camper site on the outskirts of Melbourne for a few nights. We had soon realised at around this point that time was running short if we were to make it past Sydney, so the clock was ticking.
Melbourne is actually quite a nice city, a little pretentious, although I found it to be a refreshing change from the endless sandy outback. It’s been said that Melbourne is the most European you can feel than anywhere else in Australia.
Here are some of the images I managed to capture while we were staying in Melbourne…
After Melbourne, our next stop was Canberra, Australia's capital city. We had a full day to look around the city, which included looking around the house of Parliament, which was very interesting.
Framed paintings of the prime ministers of Australia
On our way up to Sydney it became evident that time wasn't on our side. Not feeling too dismayed we were happy to have been able to make it this far.
Someone put a lot of effort into making this sign, so I decided to take a photo of it.
These guys were just chilling in the trees, like most Koalas do...
On our way up to Sydney we stopped over to check out the Blue Mountains.
We had a few nights in Sydney to scope it out. Here are some of the city highlights from our stay.
Free city tours are the way forward, although most people donate something at the end of it.
Some famous building...
A view along the harbour edge including the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
This weird palm tree group was on display in the botanical gardens.
Street art can be found all around Sydney, you just have to look up.
There's a sign around the corner stating that this is street art and not an actual accident!
I genuinely thought this was a real person for a while until I realised it wasn't moving at all and it was made of bronze...
That marked the end of our Australia trip. We had a really great time travelling across this massive country and will take away many fond memories, as well as a new skill in the game of Schafkopfen (Sheep beheading, in English). It's a Bavarian card game that's a lot of fun but I still need practise.
